What to Expect

A technical conversation. Not a sales call.

The briefing exists so both sides can find out whether there's a real fit. Here's what it involves.

  • 30 to 45 minutes, by phone or video, at a time that works for you
  • A conversation about your actual environment — users, sites, what's on-premises versus cloud, who currently handles IT
  • Your obligations reviewed — insurance policy language, contract flow-downs, regulatory exposure
  • An honest read on priorities — what we'd look at first, and what can safely wait
  • A rough scope and range, if an engagement makes sense
  • A straight answer if it doesn't — including pointing you elsewhere when that's the right call

Answers before you ask.

What is a security briefing, exactly?

A technical conversation — typically 30 to 45 minutes — about your environment, your obligations, and what's actually concerning you. We'll tell you what we'd look at first and roughly what it would take. There is no cost and no obligation, and you'll get a straight answer even if that answer is that you don't need us yet.

Do you sell managed services or software?

No. Sparrowhawk is security-focused consulting, not an MSP and not a reseller. We don't earn commission on tools we recommend, which means when we tell you a product is worth buying, that assessment isn't compromised. If you already have an MSP, we work alongside them — and we're frequently engaged specifically to assess whether an MSP is delivering what it's billing for.

How are engagements priced?

Fixed price against a written scope. You know the cost before work begins, and it doesn't change unless you change the scope in writing. Retainer arrangements for virtual CISO work are billed monthly and can be adjusted quarterly as your needs change.

What's the difference between the free briefing and the paid session?

The free briefing is for organizations considering an engagement: we learn your environment and tell you whether, and how, we can help. The paid advisory session — $75 for 30 minutes — is for when you need expert input on a specific question and no engagement is implied. You book it online and pay at booking.

Will testing disrupt our production environment?

Not without your explicit agreement. Rules of engagement are defined in writing before anything starts — including which systems are in scope, which are explicitly excluded, what testing windows are permitted, and who to call if something behaves unexpectedly. In OT and manufacturing environments we default to passive and read-only techniques unless you specifically authorize otherwise.

What happens if you find something critical mid-engagement?

You hear about it immediately. Critical findings are escalated by phone the same day — you never wait for the final report to learn that something is actively exposed. If we find evidence of an existing compromise, we stop, notify you, and help you decide on next steps before continuing.

Do you work with organizations outside Central Illinois?

Yes. Sparrowhawk is based in Central Illinois and serves clients nationwide. Most assessment work is performed remotely; on-site engagements are scoped and quoted separately, and are common for OT and manufacturing environments where physical access matters.

Are you registered for federal contracting?

Yes. Sparrowhawk Technology, LLC holds an active SAM.gov registration for all award types, is an SBA-certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, and can provide a W-9, certificate of insurance, and capability statement on request.
